Sarajevo Roses - Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegonvina
As the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo was a central zone of conflict during the Bosnian War. A Sarajevo rose is a concrete scar caused by a mortar shell’s explosion that was later filled with red resin. Mortar rounds landing on concrete create a unique fragmentation pattern that looks almost floral in arrangement. Throughout the city, explosion marks have been filled with red resin to mark where mortar explosions resulted in one or more deaths.
Kazantip Festival - Crimean Peninsula, Ukraine
Kazantip is an electronic dance music festival held every year on the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine. It takes place for 5-6 weeks in the summer and more than 150,000 “paradiZers” visit each year. KaZantip presents itself as a “virtual republic” with over 300 DJs on more than 14 dance floors which play 21 hours per day.
